I'm not sure what elements of Wine Spectator's tasting methodology you consider "questionable," but if you have questions, it is explained in detail here: http://www.winespectator.com/display/show/id/about-our-tastings

I'd like to point out that in 2009, Wine Spectator reviewed more than 3,000 wines that retail for $15 or less, all in blind tastings by experienced critics. In many cases, these inexpensive wines received higher scores than wines of similar types that cost more.

Ken - FANTASTIC review, and I think a very, very balanced take on the book. I linked to this in the comments of my recent interview with Robin Goldstein.

Cheers!

Thank you, Tyce, for your comments. I would like to take a moment to clarify one issue. After a constructive exchange with Robin Goldstein, I believe I may have inaccurately stated his position on food and wine pairing vis-a-vis blind tasting. He draws a distinction between drinking wine with food, indispensable in his view, and evaluating wine in a blind tasting. Though I disagree with the practicalities of this view, it is nevertheless true I did not properly state his position.

Cheers. I wish the best for your projects. I will enjoy reading them.

Great review, Ken. We appreciate both the compliments and the excellent suggestions. We will be sure to include a list of the more expensive wines tasted in our next edition (all of which were roughly $50-$150, by the way). And Ron Dee, glad to hear you enjoyed the book - we hope it continues to be a great resource. Feel free to check us out on Facebook or at twitter.com/thewinetrials. Cheers!

Your review (who are you by the way) of Goldstein's latest "Wine Trails, 2010" is a fine one. As an avid consumer with a fixed income, it's great to find good to excellent labels in the under $15 bracket, which is why I enjoyed this and his previous book which surpirsed many of my wine group friends.
