International Wine Fair in Mumbai Postponed

On September 25th I posted a story about the India International Wine Fair to be held in Mumbai, India from December 11th through the 13th. Now comes news of the Wine Fair’s postponement until March 16th to the 18th, 2009.
As the world well knows Mumbai came under a coordinated series of terrorist attacks last week. Many perished. While the details continue to emerge an official message stressing the safety of participants was posted on the India International Wine Fair web home page today. The text appears below.
“Dear Colleague,
In light of the recent deplorable terrorist attacks in Mumbai, we have had to make an immediate decision to postpone the 2008 India International Wine Fair to 16th – 18th March, 2009 at the same venue, the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai.
The teams at Informa and Promeeting will be working tirelessly over the coming days to liaise with the event’s exhibitors, partners, and other stakeholders, and solve any issues that may arise on account of the postponement of the show.
The decision to reschedule the event has been taken in the interests of the safety and all of our clients, partners, vendors, and staff – which we cannot compromise on – as well as the prevailing sentiment amongst them. If you are a confirmed participant at the event, you will automatically be registered for the rescheduled show, and key executives from our project team will remain in contact with you. Our hearts go out to the families of all of those affected by this tragedy, and in particular to our friends at the Oberoi, Trident & Taj hotels – the spirit and resilience of the people of this great city and country will, we are certain, surmount this shocking and horrific rite of passage.
